U2 – I still haven’t found what I’m looking for

#quotefromthe80s
I have run, I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

My idea, certainly subjective and therefore incomplete, is that 80s music grew up with us, a bit like a pet.

For this reason, speaking of the final part of the decade, it is just impossible to overlook the maturity that came and totally changed a group that went from being a rough (and a little basic) rock band to a very refined ensemble capable of great sounds and showing off a powerful and finally trained voice. And U2 became world icons.

When it was released in March 1987, driven by With or Without You, the album The Joshua Tree caused a sensation: the musical level, the renewed look, the careful photographic choice for the presentation of the album and for the accompanying video clips, brought some old fans to openly challenge the new job. And towards the end of May also the second single was released, the beautiful I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.

Certainly they attracted a much greater number of new admirers: the album was first in almost all the world charts (the exception of Australia is significant, a little less the Norwegian one) and it scores gold, platinum and diamond everywhere. The following year they will sink the accelerator of change with Rattle and Hum.

When adolescence ends, you have to look for your own path, but some take longer than others to find it; almost certainly the dreamers, the most sensitive people, the many Peter Pan who struggle to greet their grown up Wendys are the ones who linger. For this reason, then, to follow them they have to go a long way and look for them everywhere, just as this extraordinary song tells.

Probably the song also speaks of our perennial dissatisfaction, someone sees an even more spiritual search, for Bono, finally, “It is more a hymn to doubt than to faith.”
