Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes really opened the 80s at the midnighy of Aug 1, 1981, when MTV started broadcasting in the US, and of course played “Video killed the radio star” as a wish and a declaration of intent of the new experience of music fruition that the TV coul provide-
While you can see their original famous video in their post page, I think it’s fine here to compare two performances. The first is a playback for a tv show, so it’s not a real live performance, but it gives us a kind of idea of how they could appear and perform live at the top of their career
But see them in this performanvce that really makes me shiver, It’s from 2004 Prince Charles’ charity concert, and I think it’s marvellous because after 30 years we can not only see a fantastic Trevor Horn playing his futuristic song in white hair, and Geoff Downes on keyboards, but we can also enjoy the presence of the original choir voices, which really made this song unforgettable. First of all Linda Jardim, appearing also in this video, while the other voice was Debi Dess. Every time I see this video it really makes me shiver!
